ACU Scholarship

ACU Scholarship

Deputy Chair Lynn McKinnon with ACU scholarship recipient Thomas Skelly.

For some time now, the CCSP has provided a scholarship to a pre-service teacher at Australian Catholic University as an incentive for to further their understanding and subsequent application of parent engagement in their teaching role.

Last month, CCSP Deputy Chair, Lynn McKinnon (Parramatta PRC) presented the award to Thomas Skelly, of Crookwell following his submission to the university board.

This year's presentation was to Mr Thomas Skelly, read his acceptance speech here.

Here is Mrs McKinnon’s retelling of the evening’s presentation:

Mr Thomas Skelly, a lovely young man from the Diocese of Canberra/Goulburn was the worthy recipient of the CCSP Scholarship. Thomas is from the Education Faculty and is studying teaching. He hails from the rural community of Crookwell and the scholarship will enable him to complete his Education Degree while living out of home. His family members are active Catholics in the parish of St Mary’s and in fact three generations of his family have attended St Mary’s Primary School, Crookwell.

Both Thomas’s parents were present for the ceremony and they had driven from Crookwell earlier in the day. They were extremely appreciative of the Scholarship that had been awarded to Thomas and did in fact ask me to pass on their personal thanks to the CCSP. Thomas was also very grateful to have received this Scholarship. It was a pleasure to represent the CCSP at this presentation and our organisation was recognised publicly along with the other organisations that had awarded scholarships.

Congratulations Thomas. It was inspiring to read your story of how you decided to study primary teaching which can be accessed here. Thomas is invited to the #FutureReady conference where he will see parent engagement in action.
